The learning experience

The Nachshon program offers participants a rich and diverse educational experience through discussions, lectures, trips, and hands-on activities. The curriculum encompasses education, philosophy, politics, current events, the Bible, Israeli culture, and more. Instruction is provided not only by the program’s dedicated staff but also by a diverse array of guest lecturers from various fields and backgrounds. Participants actively contribute to the educational process by teaching subjects such as the Bible and influencing the selection of guest speakers.

Nachshon places special emphasis on “seven pillars” which guide the program’s activity:

Leadership

The participants learn how to take responsibility, be proactive and influence their community. The lessons are full of hands-on experiences, the purpose of which is to impart tools: how to carry out group activities assertively, yet attentively; how to appear in front of an audience and convey messages effectively, and more. The participants also manage projects of subjects with national, cultural, educational and social significance.

Zionism and the Jewish People
in Israel and the Diaspora

The story of the Jewish people begins with the history of the people of Israel, through getting to know Diaspora Jewry, until the emergence of the Zionist movement and its importance as a constitutive revolution. By means of meetings, films, discussions and trips, the participants become aware that the Zionist project in Israel and in the Jewish world is still in progress. These studies enhance the participants’ sense of belonging to the state of Israel and to the Jewish people.

Jewish Identity

At Nachshon, many participants face the meaning of their Jewish identity for the first time. Every week talks and lessons take place with intellectuals, rabbis, teachers and counselors, about various topics in Jewish thought and the Jewish way of life. Periodically, the participants meet with religious and Haredi populations, thus strengthening the values of tolerance and recognition of the other. They learn about the movements and factions in Judaism from a pluralistic viewpoint and are exposed to the complexity of the Jewish world, to the point of taking a stand. As a result, both individual and group Jewish identity is shaped and strengthened

Israel
and Israeli Society

Learning in Nachshon takes place not only in the classroom. During the year there are trips and tours from Dan to Eilat, including backpacking hikes of several days. With the help of the staff, the participants themselves organize the trips, from choosing the destination and the route, through planning the content that will be taught, until managing the logistical aspects.
On their many and varied journeys they acquire extensive knowledge about Israel and get to know the various groups that comprise Israeli society.
Every place is an opportunity for a meeting with the local population, to get to know their way of life and be exposed to their customs and opinions. In Nachshon we use these opportunities to carry out activities that contribute to the community in partnership with local residents.
