Life in a Group

Living in a group setting, participants explore and consolidate their personal and collective identities and values. The counseling team provides thoughtful guidance, helping them develop self-awareness, tolerance, active listening, acceptance of others, and the capacity to both give and receive feedback.
Nachshon is run jointly by teams of participants, who are responsible for the various areas of activity: study topics, social activities and the way of life, trips and tours, contribution to the community, and more. Discussions and decisions about the group’s living routine take place democratically among all the participants.

Personal development

The living routine in Nachshon is intensive and activity-packed, and gives the participant an opportunity to take responsibility and experience self-management in the face of the different challenges. Participants cope with practical experiences, such as: planning and teaching lessons, building and managing a schedule and so on. In addition, continuous self-examination takes place while relating to the areas of knowledge and culture to which the participant is exposed and in view of the constant interaction with the group members and with the counseling team. This helps them to consolidate and strengthen their identity and values, and develop self-confidence, curiosity, social and emotional intelligence, critical thinking, caring and humility. Their sense of efficacy and commitment to the community also increase.

Group development

Group life with the members of the cohort, with their many ways of life, the rules and the principles on which they are based, are molded by the participants themselves. They experience joint leadership of a tiny society while applying consideration, mutual influence, interpersonal communication and teamwork. Living in a diverse and heterogeneous group contributes to their social openness and awareness as well as their acceptance of others.
